BOARD OF DIRECTORS VACANCY AT BTI COLLEGE

In accordance with TVET Act Section 28(3), Act No. 18 of 2014, BTI College has a functioning Board of Directors who serve for a term of 3 years and are eligible for renewal for one more term.

We are seeking two new members to join our multi-disciplinary Board. Board members are responsible for the overall governance of the College. They guide strategy; ensure compliance with laws and policies such as safeguarding; guide the principal; assist with fundraising; and help raise BTI College’s profile.

Unless needed for extraordinary reasons, board meetings usually occur quarterly at the College’s main Campus in Kiserian or virtually.

THE FUNCTIONS OF THE BOARD OF DIRECTORS SHALL INCLUDE —
(a) Overseeing the conduct of education and training in BTI College.
(b) Promoting and maintaining standards, quality, and relevance in education and training institutions.
(d) Developing and implementing BTI’s strategic plan.
(e) Preparing annual estimates of revenue and expenditure for the institution and incurring expenditure on behalf of the institutions.
(1) Receiving, on behalf of the institution, fees, grants, subscriptions, donations, bequests, or other money and to make disbursement to the institution or other bodies or persons.
(g) Determining the fees payable and prescribing conditions under which fees may be remitted in part or whole under the guidelines developed under the provisions of the TVET Act;
(h) Mobilizing resources for the institutions.
(i) Developing and reviewing programmes for training and making representations thereon to the Board;
(j) Regulating the admission and exclusion of trainees from the institutions, subject to Kenya National qualifications framework (KNQF).
(k) Approving collaboration or association with other institutions and industries in and outside Kenya subject to prior approval by the TVETA;
(l) Recruiting and appointing trainers from among qualified professionals and practicing tradespersons in relevant sectors of industry.
(m) Determining suitable terms and conditions of service for support staff, trainers, and instructors and remunerating the staff of the institutions in consultation with TVETA;
(n) Making regulations governing the organization, conduct, and discipline of the staff and trainees.
(o) Preparing comprehensive annual reports on all areas of their mandate, including education and training services, and submitting the same to TVETA;
(p) Providing for the welfare of the trainees and staff of the institutions.
(q) Encouraging, nurturing, and promoting democratic culture, dialogue, and tolerance in the institutions; and
(r) Discharging all other functions conferred upon it by the TVET Act or any other written law.

REQUIREMENTS:
The Board of Directors shall comprise individuals who have demonstrated significant achievements in business, education, professions, and/or public service. They must have the requisite intelligence, education, and experience to make a significant contribution to the deliberations of the Board of Directors.

Here are the qualifications:
• Be a Kenyan citizen.
• Hold a minimum of a degree from a recognized institution.
• Have at least five (5) years work experience in management/governance positions
• Have demonstrated professional competence and managerial capabilities.
• Demonstrate an appreciation of the diversity within the Country.
• Be visionary and strategic in approach.
• Be a team player with the ability to network.
• Demonstrate flexibility and adaptability.
• Satisfy the requirements of Chapter six of the Constitution of Kenya 2010 on leadership and integrity.
• A postgraduate qualification is an added advantage.
• Experience in a similar role in the past is an added advantage.
• Knowledge and experience in fundraising are also added advantages.

ICT Intern

BTI College Internship Programme offers students and recent graduates the opportunity to gain direct practical experience with BTI’s work.

We are currently looking for ICT interns to handle various ICT related tasks within the College.

Eligibility

  • Be enrolled in an undergraduate or diploma programme or have graduated within the past two years.
  • Have excellent academic performance, as demonstrated by recent university/education records.
  • Be at least 18 years old.
  • Training in ICT related field.
  • Proficient in computer usage.
  • Ability to work with computer including teaching on need bases.
  • Must be from Kiserian

BTI COLLEGE RELOCATES TO KISERIAN

Buruuj Training Institute (BTI) has relocated to Kiserian. Before then, the College was operating 7KM away in Ongata Rongai.

The College is now located along Mugima road, 190 meters Off Magadi road, turning right at Valley high school. Slightly past Kiserian girls high school junction before you enter the slope entering Kiserian town. The locals call the area kwa maji.

With Relocation, BTI now offers technical courses such as Fashion & Design, Wiring, Catering, Building & Construction, and other practical courses.

History of BTI

The history of BTI College dates to October 2002.   The founders of BTI college started a makeshift training in computer application, typing, and graphics design from their Hostel room at Moi University, Main Campus.

In July 2006, the College was formerly registered under TJ Computer College and commenced Computer Training in Sotik Town, Kenya. In 2008, TJ Computer College relocated to Nairobi and continued offering computer courses. In 2015, the College gave birth to Tijara Consultancy.

Tijara offers Strategic Management and Islamic Finance Training with a bias toward short-term courses targeting corporates, Saccos, and Microfinance Institutions. The growing demand for technical, academic, and professional training gave rise to the Buruuj Training Institute (BTI), which admitted pioneer students in 2021.

BTI Courses

BTI offers Business Studies, Banking & Finance, Cooperative Management, Computer & IT, Languages, Social Work & Community Development, Journalism, Building and Construction, Electrical Engineering, Hospitality, Fashion and design, Carpentry, Cosmetology, Islamic Finance, Islamic Studies, and dozens of short courses. BTI also has a robust Consultancy department.

Mode of Teaching

BTI classes are offered Online, Physically, and in hybrid mode. The Main campus hosts technical courses. We have spacious classes and a well-equipped computer lab. Online students learn through our interactive online Learning Management System (LMS) and get information about the College through the student portal. In addition, we have a robust e-Library resource for the students.

BTI Management and board comprises a very experienced team. It has a board comprised of individuals with decades of experience in corporate and education. The board of directors is from Kenya, Ethiopia, and Tanzania.

FREE: BURJI HISTORY CLASS AT BURUUJ TRAINING INSTITUTE NOW OPEN TO NON-STUDENTS

Launched in September 2021, the Burji Language Course at BTI College has three subjects:

  1. Burji Grammar & Vocabulary.
  2. Listening & Speaking
  3. Burji History.

This trimester, we have opened the History class to non-students as part of our intellectual CSR.

We are about to start a discussion and criticism of Shibru Galla’s 2019 history book titled Burji Ancestors: History, Origin….

Join Dr. Tego Wolasa online every Tuesday from 8.45 pm for the Burji history class as he discusses the over 180 pages book page by page, chapter by chapter, until its conclusion.

We will also invite Ato Shibru, the author, for a few classes so that we can all benefit from his vast knowledge and experience.

VIRTUAL SALES AND MARKETING INTERNSHIP

Buruuj Training is a Pan-African eLearning Institute for Businesses, Entrepreneurship, Information Technology, Islamic Finance, Islamic Studies and Language courses.

BTI has both physical and online presence. We are looking for Sales and Marketing interns to sell our brand and courses.

Internship opportunities are available to candidates throughout Africa. However, we give priority to present and past BTI students as part of our Student support.

BTI Internship Supervisor will be having occasional one on one interaction with our interns. The assignments and the interaction will help them gain experience and on-the-job training in a flexible manner without commuting.

Successful applicant will be eligible for monthly stipend. In addition, BTI reimburses all the costs incurred while undertaking sales and marketing assignments given by the Institute.

Buruuj is a Pan African eLearning Institute for Business, Information Technology, Islamic Finance, Islamic Studies and Language courses.

BTI is a startup Institute which is registered with the TVET Authority under the Ministry of Education.

We are looking for a candidate with the below-listed qualifications.

  • Have worked with an Institute/College for at least three years.
  • Tutoring experience in the field of IT or Business related Fields.
  • In Possession of at least a Degree in Either IT or Business-related Field.
  • Be in a procession of pedagogy.
  • Be excellent in Sales and Marketing.
  • Excellent in Computer literacy.
  • Possession of a TVET tutor number will be an added advantage.

The person will be responsible for some of the under listed:

  • Deputizing the Principal in running the Institute.
  • Responsible for Managing the BTI physical campus based at Ongata Rongai.
  • Tutor students at the Ongata Rongai Campus as well as online.
  • Coordinate Sales and Marketing activities.

BURUUJ TRAINING INSTITUTE NOW REGISTERED WITH TVET AUTHORITY

BTI is now fully registered with the Ministry of Education in the Republic of Kenya.

The registration certificate number TVETA/PRIVATE/TVC/008/2022 was issued by The Technical and Vocational Education and Training Authority (TVETA).

TVETA is mandated to license, register, accredit, regulate and coordinate programs, institutions, and trainers, mainly at Artisan, certificate, and diploma levels.

Buruuj Training Institute is a pan African eLearning Institute for Business, Information Technology, Languages, Islamic Finance, and Islamic studies.

Buruuj first started offering training sixteen years ago when its predecessor TJ computer College opened its doors in Sotik Town of Bomet county in 2006.

TJ was later relocated to Nairobi and renamed Tijara Consultancy. Tijara went into full-time consultancy and capacity building aimed at corporate institutions.

Buruuj was borne out of Tijara Consultancy to cater to the ever-advancing tech-savvy Kenyans’ enormous demand for e-learning courses.

Buruuj has already made its mark by training hundreds of students in Arabic, Burji, Amharic, and Swahili Languages.

In addition, BTI has handled dozens of students studying the Qur’an and Islamic Studies.

With the Government registration in hand, BTI can now start offering accredited academic and professional courses upon identifying qualified tutors.

BURUUJ TRAINING INSTITUTE LAUNCHES SWAHILI LANGUAGE COURSE AS AFRICAN UNION ADOPTS IT AS AN OFFICIAL WORKING LANGUAGE

In February 2022, the African Union’s Heads of State approved Swahili as an official working language for the bloc.

With its origin in East Africa, Swahili is spoken by over a 100million speakers spread over 14 countries.

According to the UN, the language is spoken in Tanzania, Kenya, Uganda, Rwanda, Burundi, DRS, South Sudan, Somalia, Mozambique, Malawi, Zambia, Comoros, and as far as Oman and Yemen in the Middle East

In addition, the United Nations Educational, Scientific, and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) has designated July 7 as World Kiswahili Language Day.

In addition, Swahili is now a teaching language in several African countries. Among the institutions undertaking Swahili Language training is Buruuj Training Institute.

The Swahili Language course at BTI is streamlined to follow the Common European Framework of Reference (CEFR) for Languages

The Pan African eLearning Institute for Businesses, Entrepreneurship, Islamic Finance, Qur’an, Islamic Studies, Languages, and corporate courses already has several running courses.

Other language courses offered at the institute include Arabic, Burji, English, and French.

Found in 2006, the institute started as a computer college and later focused on corporate training. In 2020, BTI introduced academic, professional, and language courses.

Its main office and physical campus are located in the Nairobi Metropolis town of Ongata Rongai.

YOU CAN NOW LEARN AMHARIC LANGUAGE ONLINE

Buruuj Training Institute has launched an online Amharic Language course.

The Institute’s board chairman, Mr. Wolasa, told the students that the online course had been designed to have six levels.

Each level is designed to take a period of six months. For ease of learning, the six months are divided into two trimesters, each three months long.

BTI already offers Arabic and Burji languages. Amharic will be taught three days a week like the first two languages.

The Institute also offers online Qur’an studies and academic writing courses.

The Institute expects to launch Swahili, English, French Language, and CPA within the first quarter of 2022.

Other courses which have been lined up include Islamic Banking, Islamic Studies,

The launch was attended by dozens of new and continuing students and staff members.

The Institute’s head office and physical campus are located in the Nairobi metropolis town of Ongata Rongai.

The physical campus houses KNEC Diploma and Certificate courses.

Among them are IT, Business Management, Banking and finance, Cooperative Management, Human Resource Management, Social Science, and Sales and Marketing.

Also on offer are Islamic Baking (TVET), Computerized Secretarial, Computerized accounting, typing and formatting, Graphic Design, and Web design.

The Institute also offers customized corporate short courses.

ABOUT AMHARIC LANGUAGE

Amharic is the 2000 years old official and working language of Ethiopia. It is the second most spoken Semitic language in the world after Arabic.

Like other Semitic languages of Ethiopia, Amharic uses a script that originated from the Ge’ez alphabet.

It has 33 basic characters, and unlike the North Semitic languages such as Arabic, Hebrew, or Syrian, the language is written from left to right.

Amharic came to be lingua franca or widely spoken in Ethiopia from the 9th century and became the instrument of the state language since the 14th century.

Ethiopia’s population is today estimated to be 119million.

The pan African e-learning institute has launched its first physical classes at the Ongata Rongai Campus.

Supported by a battery of highly experienced tutors, the Institute intends to produce students who are best suited for current global technological trends.

IT courses are not new to Buruuj Training Institute (BTI), its history dates to July 2006 when its predecessor, TJ Computer College commenced IT Training in Sotik Town, Kenya.

In 2008, TJ computer college relocated to Nairobi and continued offering on-demand IT courses mainly to institutions.

In 2015, the Institute started offering Strategic Management and Islamic Finance Training with a bias towards short-term courses targeting Saccos and other corporate entities.

The growing demand for individualized training gave rise to the Buruuj Training Institute (BTI).

BTI offers Information Technology, Business, Management, Accounting, Community Development, Entrepreneurship, Languages, Banking, Sacco Management, Islamic Finance, Qur’an and Islamic Studies courses.
